Honoris Educational Network Launches Mauritius’ First Russian Language Centre
6 June 2026, Highlands, Mauritius — Honoris Educational Network, in partnership with Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, has officially launched the Centre for Open Education in Russia and Russian Language Teaching in Mauritius.
The launch marks an important step in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Mauritius and Russia, while creating new opportunities for Mauritians interested in learning the Russian language and exploring future study opportunities in Russia.
The Centre will provide access to Russian language education and cultural learning, helping students develop the linguistic and intercultural skills needed to engage more confidently in academic and professional environments linked to the Russian-speaking world.
The official launch was attended by the Rector of Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, representatives of the Russian Embassy, members of the Russian community in Mauritius, students and invited guests.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Tasneem Jaumally, Managing Director of Honoris Educational Network, highlighted the importance of international educational partnerships.
“At Honoris, we believe education should broaden horizons and create opportunities for meaningful engagement across cultures. This partnership provides Mauritians with access to a new language, a deeper understanding of Russian culture, and potential pathways for future academic and professional development.”
The event also celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of students who successfully completed the Russian language programme offered through the partnership. Their achievement represents an important milestone in the development of Russian language education in Mauritius and reflects growing interest in international language learning.

In his keynote address, Professor Igor Petrishchev, Rector of Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, emphasised the value of educational cooperation in strengthening understanding between nations and creating opportunities for future collaboration.
“Academic cooperation is the foundation of lasting international friendships. By teaching the Russian language here in Mauritius, we are creating opportunities for students to learn about our culture, strengthen connections between our countries, and participate in future academic exchanges.”
Mauritius is recognised for its cultural diversity and multilingual environment. The introduction of Russian language education adds to this rich linguistic landscape while supporting greater academic and cultural exchange between Mauritius and Russia.

The launch of the Centre reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to promote international cooperation through education and to create opportunities for students to engage with different cultures, perspectives and learning environments.
As the partnership continues to develop, both institutions look forward to expanding educational exchanges and welcoming future cohorts of students to the programme.
