Every October, the world turns pink to raise awareness about breast cancer, which the World Health Organisation identifies as the most common cancer globally. Here in Mauritius, where breast cancer is sadly one of the common forms of cancer affecting women, this global movement takes on special importance. At Honoris Educational Network, we knew we wanted to do more than just wear a ribbon, so we decided to get moving and make a real difference, together.

The Challenge That Got Everyone Moving

All 25 of our staff members strapped on their trainers and embraced the Honoris Walking Challenge from October 20th to 25th, setting the simple but mighty goal of hitting at least 5,000 steps every single day. Using the Pacer app, the digital leaderboard sparked a fun, fast-paced rivalry (even among those typically glued to their desks) as colleagues found creative new routes, strolling through our beautiful endemic garden or taking laps around the office. Over the week, the team collectively logged tens of thousands of steps. This incredible effort created an electric buzz and a powerful sense of unity, fostering high-fives, shared jokes, and impromptu social moments that energised our teamwork and gave everyone a chance to reset their daily routines for a compassionate cause.

Giving Back to the Community

But our feet weren’t the only things giving back. Following the success of the walking week, the Honoris team was proud to make a generous donation to Link to Life.

This respected local NGO has been a lifeline for over two decades, providing crucial support, counselling, and patient navigation services to cancer patients and their families right here in Mauritius. It’s an honour to support an organisation that ensures compassion and care reach those who need it most.

As one team member shared, “Walking together for breast cancer awareness strengthened our sense of unity and gave us a real opportunity to make a difference”. The Breast Cancer Awareness challenge stands as a heartfelt testament to Honoris Educational Network’s commitment to health, compassion, and social responsibility.
